Data Collection

Ethernet

Krill’s Processors and Sensor Pod devices are inter-connected with shielded Ethernet, through a central high speed Ethernet switch. There is no practical limit to the number of Display Units or Sensor Pods that can be added, as multiple Ethernet Switches can be cascaded together to grow the network to accommodate any number of Krill devices.

Electrical properties such as AC and DC current draw, voltage, charge remaining, tank levels, equipment running indicators can easily be measured, recorded and displayed.

NMEA 2000

You can now easily monitor data from any NMEA 2000 compatible devices from various manufacturers located throughout the entire vessel. Data from engine fuel flow and other sensors, GPS position, compass heading, weather stations, water depth /speed / temperature can easily be collected. The NMEA 2000 data is interfaced to Krill’s Black Box Processor through a Krill EGW1 Ethernet Gateway, which converts NMEA 2000 signals to Ethernet.

An example NMEA 2000 network that collects fuel flow data from 4 engines as well as vessel location, speed and course from an existing GPS unit is shown below. Power for all of the devices on the network is supplied from a central power connector making installation simple and easy. There is only a single cable from the engine room to the Pilot House, making multiple analog cable runs a thing of the past.
