Krill Systems announces successful installation on HOS Max320 offshore supply vessel HOS Crestview

Bainbridge Island, WA – Krill Systems Inc., leader in advanced Vessel Fuel Measurement and Monitoring Systems (VFMMS), announces successful installation and sea-trial of the Krill VFMMS system on HOS Crestview, a recently completed new-building from Halter Marine’s Pascagoula, MS yard for Hornbeck Offshore Services. HOS Crestview, a Super 320 – class OSV, is the eighth boat in a ten boat contract signed in November 2011 between Hornbeck Offshore Services and VT Halter Marine, Inc.

The 319’ 6” HOS CRESTVIEW was built to full ABS (2011) Classification and is Oceans-SOLAS, SIP, USCG Subchapter 1 and L Certified. She is powered by 2 x Caterpillar 3516C Main Engines, 2 x Caterpillar C32 Auxiliary Generators and 3 x Brunvoll CPP Tunnel Thrusters all fitted, by owner’s request, with Emerson Micro-Motion Coriolis fuel-flow meters. Bunkers are also being measured and processed as part of the completely integrated Krill Vessel Fuel Measurement and Management System (VFMMS).

Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates offshore supply vessels (OSVs) and multi-purpose support vessels (MPSVs) in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Latin America, and internationally. The company owns and operates a fleet of U.S.-flagged OSVs and MPSVs that support the deep-well, deepwater, and ultra-deepwater exploration, development, production, construction, installation, inspection, repair, maintenance, well-stimulation, and other enhanced oil recovery activities of the offshore oil and gas industry. As of February 11, 2015, the company owned and operated 63 OSVs and 5 MPSVs. It is anticipated that the HOS Crestview will be operating in Mexican waters.

In response to the specific operational requirements of HOS Crestview, Krill Systems was asked to supply fuel measurement data collection and transmission, in real time, in addition to Bunker measurement, management and reporting. Coriolis flow-meters were used, exclusively, to provide the highest accuracy measurement of fuel consumption, one of the options made available by Krill’s very flexible design format. The installed meters will measure the fuel consumption of: four (2) Main Engines, two (2) Generators, Three (3) Thrusters and the Fuel Bunkers.

Krill Systems uses Microsoft SQL server database technology to record sensor data with 2-second resolution and storage capacity of at least one year with unlimited roll-over capacity. Any communication system including Cellular or Satellite internet access, supporting standard SMTP email protocols, can be used to transmit customizable reports and sensor data menus, to any number of operators, anywhere, with no monthly fees or charges.

“We are pleased to report the successful conclusion of this installation and look forward to moving on to the next fittings in this fleet” says Brian Staton, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. “A key factor in the success of this project was the close communication and support between the two organizations and attention to detail, from initial ship-check to sign-off. Krill’s system design flexibility allowed us to respond quickly to Hornbeck’s specific requirements and deliver on schedule”.
